My creative moods are jammin oh yeah. So rather than sit and watch Idle Pish that is reality tv. I've taken my fascinating imagination and creativity to set building. (dioramas). In my latest A-Team Story two brothers of a local gunsmiths shop are put under increased pressure by a local business tycoon, he himself is a gentleman and wont get his hands dirty.. and so he sends round his heavies to rough them up and force them outta town. Sound familiar? Anyways enough of the story, the basic set here is a street and road with shops on. Now I started out with my main place the gunsmiths. I needed a shop that on the exterior looked pretty rundown compared to the others yet, inside i'd still be able to snap out pictures if i needed to. ![]() The back is cut out, leaving a gaping hole for figure placement and camera shots. This is a work in progress shot. The roof was added and I found my board for the street/road too! ![]() I decided that although heavies would be visiting, I wanted the actual area to be reasonable. Adding an insurance broker/agents on the left and a bookstore on the right. I have never ever made a set before (tbh it probably shows) but i'm learning as I go, so please dont be too harsh just yet as it's still an ongoing work in progress. My next step was to find materials for the Insurance brokers and the Bookstore. The Gunsmiths looks pretty much how I'd want it to look now (barring the signs) I got some red miniture cut bricks in ![]() and some fieldstone from MBS ![]() The fieldstone I will paint either white or grey or an offset cream colour, i'll have the door black with a small sign to the left or right with the Insurance Brokers name on to match the door. The red bricks will be eventually mortered/cemented in. ![]() this image shows the set as it currently stands with the signs on the gunsmiths, you can see I've started placement of the bricks already. and will fill it in afterwards and apply the windows. My final image from this post is one of my microman helping out.. ![]() he told me he was back on the phone to MBS for more supplies.. so i left him to it.. 20 minutes later and dominoes turn up.... wait a minute!!!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Street Work Index Street Work Project Folder @ Flickr Comic Book Story - Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Edited by Superiorraw, Aug 26 2009, 03:33 PM.

Hey guys. Just a brief update. I began placing bricks onto the bookstore last week, only recently i've noticed on the kitkit box i've been using, the barcode and data in black seem to be getting in the way, as a result it threw off some of the brickwork It didn't look too bad, I was going to keep it, but then Boss Hogg shown up and wanted it re-doing (boss hogg is my alterior ego for wanting better) i do have the figure and could do a story on this alone.. but i have much more to do. So.. I got thinking, I wanted the free kit kat box to use as my bookstore, but how could i effectively draw out with pencil or biro without it clashing with the data and barcode on the box? I was getting to this stage when I realised it would be an issue, Next time you have a free candy box with a barcode on try writing on the black bit with biro and you'll see what i mean.. (you cant tell the lines apart as they are the same colour). So i stripped the bricks off and started again, Microman helped me paint the box white.. so effectively its like a sheet of white paper to draw the brick lines on. ![]() Victory for Microman and me.. and we continue on with the project! Huzzah! |

Micromans joblist for today is.. ![]() He's got round to painting up the brokers lets have a looksie. ![]() and the finished painted fieldstone wall. ![]() You can't really tell so much in that second picture, but i promise that if the weather holds up or i get chance i will take a much closer shot of the detailing on the fieldstone now it's painted. Update I've just taken a close up now the fieldstone has dried. Looks good eh? ![]() We're now working on the brickwork on the bookstore whilst waiting for the Fieldstone to dry. The fieldstone is a piece of thin plastic sheeting from MBS (Model Builders Supply), I cut the window and door out of the box and then used the box as a template to cut out the plastic sheeting for covering the brickwork on the box. Because the plastic sheeting is flexible you can bend/crease it round corners for the side walls and roof. I've yet to add the door and window yet but it's looking pretty realistic for an exterior building. |
