Hey Guys,
I've long been a sceptic on many things, from religion, to aliens, to ufo's to the paranormal. I always have this saying 'if i havent seen or experienced it myself, i'm hardly likely to believe or back it 100%' it applies in everything pretty much that i believe in.
I dont have a belief in religion, but then again i think part of this is the way I was brought up, don't get me wrong though from an outside perspective I'm looking at many religions and have seen the great things they can do for people.. and I respect this and i'm pleased that humankind can find some kind of guidance from it.

I've never seen a spirit, ghost or spectre.. never experienced much paranormal in my life and i've never seen a little green man, a little grey man and I've never seen a flying saucer or any flying object that made a manouevre I couldn't explain.

So, what's all this about UFO's? What are they? Where do they come from? Who flies/controls them? Is anyone in them or are they operated U.A.Vs?

I've begun researching several historical incidents as well as been reading up on reported sightings worldwide. If theres one pattern that emerges its that those who seriously believe in aliens/extra terrestrials.. are usually branded 'weirdos' or 'loonies' it seems harsh to me that mankind can't be more subjective and just say 'let him believe what he wants' rather than diminish, attack and belittle someone. I've seen the same thing in cults.. and religions.. although please understand I'm not saying they are the same thing, what I meant was usually when someone tries to pull down a belief in religion or a supportive cult, there is usually a knee jerk reaction to the attack.. which is only fair when someone is on the defensive right?

Yet when its UFO.. we are asking if this object is a plane or helicopter if it isn't, then what is it.. ufo's conventional term is that its unidentified, flying and an object of some kind. There are clearly two questions to this though, which are:

1. Can the object be analysed and explained through regular conventional means.. for example lightning, distress or decoy flares etc.
2. If it is an object thats unidentified and flying, is it an object that is being intelligently controlled by earth people or extra terrestrials? and more over is there anyone in the aircraft at all?

Two of the most gripping incidents i've looked into recently, are the UFO sighting in Rendlesham forest, United Kingdom, it's been compared to Roswell and by many on documentaries as being bigger than roswell. Particularly because the sighting occured just 1 mile from the gates of a military base, and was witnessed by military officials.

The second one is an incident at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, seen by airport crew and pilot, people trained to see regular and conventional aircraft as well as people exposed to seeing all types of weather as well.

Both incidents have credible witnesses. Yet there always seems to be nothing but a brick wall when it comes to finding out any credible explanation. The incident at Rendlesham, a Mr.James Penniston who is of the USAF actually stated in the documentary he was able to touch the surface of one of these craft... and it was of 'glass like material' yet still we dont have any solid conclusive evidence??
If he's a hoax... why risk your career with the USAF for it? If he's a hoax, that would mean his commanding officer Mr.Holt would also be in on it, as he sent a Memo to the MOD two weeks later to confirm the sighting.

Above all and despite all your beliefs, I'd like to keep the subject as open as possible. Regardless of how ridiculous my thoughts are, and how ridiculous they might seem, if you do want to comment on any of these please do comment, but with hold from namecalling as I do take these questions quite seriously. I just want members to state their open opinions on what they've seen and experienced as well as what they think might be going on.

Continued.
I've wanted to seperate this into two posts. Partly because my first post is an introduction. What do I think these incidents are?
In part I think there is something penetrating our airspace, I dont know where it comes from or what the craft is made of, but at some point, theres been enough evidence to suggest that something has attempted and at times succesfully broken our planets defences.

I think some incidents are explainable by conventional means, and other times they are advanced military weapons or craft being developed by governments, to help combat and train fighter pilots for the defence of our planet. It's easier to look at each incident rather than a whole group of them, for me it remains quite obvious that the more you delve and the more you research, the harder it becomes to segregate fact from fiction.

For example I could take an example statement such as.
"dude this thing was travelling... maybe 1000000000000 kilometres per hour''
and yet if i look at that without any evidence and just one simple statement it appears to be fiction, I could survery a county report and see that on July 9th 2007
6 witnesses all reported an "orange globe shaped object travelling across the night sky" this is easier to assertain as fact to me, i could state openly that
"with fact something was in the nightsky and it was orange and globe shaped" i'm not entering into the speed of the object, but i have assertained its fact that it happened.

If you saw an object in the sky and you couldnt identify it... what would you do?
Phone the police? Keep it to yourself and never speak about it because of fear of being ridiculed? Call the Aerial Phenomena Agency?

Do I believe in Extra Terrestrials?
By this term i'm hoping you understand that I dont think little green or grey men are going to abduct me. However I do have a suspicion that life might exist elsewhere, for example there are places on earth man cannot travel undersea, because the pressure is so great and so overwhelming it has been suggested that nothing could live there, yet when we send camera's and unmanned sea vehicles down to investigate there are creatures/insects and all kinds of things flashing, pulsating and glowing that we never knew existed, we know more about space and the sky than we do about our sea!

So how can experts sit and tell us nothing exists out there... when they dont even know what exists on our own planet?? So I say this with an open mind, I say it that If they can be wrong, and be so hypothetical with their conclusions, I can be too!
I can be hypothetical and conclude that if they say nothing can live at that depth under the sea,... apart from these strange fish we've seen... still its something.. and something is clearly living there... so if something can live there... something can live in the voids of space. The key difference is knowing they will evolve and adapt.. they will be different.

So my belief is that UFOs are partly extra terrestrial partly government trained exercises in preparation for something. I dont know what. I dont even know where these ETs come from. All I know is that something is going on with these incidents, and wheneever static and credible proof is brought to light, nothing gets done about it!

The purpose of this discussion is for me to get a return by you the members of CA, your from different parts of the country, I've got to have some kind of feedback and i thought i'd start with you guys. Your all a great bunch of friends, and I'd sincerely hope we can all discuss this with an open belief without criticisng each other overly.

My respect and regards to you all for sharing and reading your thoughts here.

The thing is that sighting nearly military bases are inherently suspect. I tend to think Roswell, and likely the incident at the UK base, were just aircraft tests. (In the case of Roswell, it is likely that something went wrong with the aircraft, hence the crash.) A combination of paranois, ineptitude, and outright lying takes care of the rest.

I am not ruling out aliens. But, not every unknown flying object is an alien craft.

Very cool topic Rich, and I believe I can provide many of my thoughts on this.

First I do believe there is life out there in space. To think we humans are alone in the huge and infinite expanse of the universe is just plain arrogant and a bit dumb, excuse my language.

Second I believe our concept of what a lifeform from outer space would be is very limited. Because I think we would not be able to fathom what an intelligent being from out there could be like. For example, do we know enough about blackholes and dark matter to be sure that they are not supermassive lifeforms that eat stars and planets for food? Think about that for a second and remember that time and space are unlimited in scope, and even with our advance technology our understanding of the universe is primitive at best.

This brings me to the topic of god and religion. I do believe there is an entity or some kind of energy out there in the universe, it sent us fractions of itself in forms we can understand to help guide us in our lives. (Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, etc.) Thats why I believe that in every religion there is an inherent message for good, and guidance for us in how to live our lives with love and compassion. But, its humans who later twisted and abused their positions of power to add different things into the messages of good for the purpose of dividing us and controlling our will, many times to convince us that something they do not agree with isn't right and should be branded as evil or wrong. Check out this clip of Futurama on Youtube which kind of illustrates what Im trying to say:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IaudsdrPjY

As for UFO, they could be life from outer space looking into our lives, they could be military scouts from some Galactic Empire prepping for an all out invasion, they could be secret experiments performed by our own military for the purpose of inventing new weapons, they could be humans from the future trying to rewrite history, or they could be a different version of us from some other dimension visiting to learn more about our dimension. The possibilities, like the universe, are unlimited.

Excellent replies guys! I am very pleased you have both stepped forward and given your honest opinions of the subject. I was thinking recently about sightings in the world of UFO. By this i mean sightings of aerial craft that aren't explained. Whilst these always aren't aliens we have to ask ourselves what exactly are they?

Lets go along with the explanation that they are ultimately experimental 'hush hush' by the government. I'm leaning towards this explanation for plenty of sightings in the past.
Before the F117 was publicly admitted there were many sightings of a black triangular aircraft in the sky. Nobody knew what this was, and yet from a certain viewpoint the F117 looks alien like in concept.. at least it did 15-20 years ago.

At the time i remember people saying it was alien craft, the government denied it and said that its not a project they have or are working on. So looking at this I can see the government have lied to us in the past. There was an incident where SAM shot down a f117 over the skies and it was then that we learned more about it.

So this brings me to a UFO sighting over here in the 80s relating to Rendlesham. Before I start to Pick away at the sighting.. lets have a brief summary.

UFO Rendlesham

There are 6 parts to that documentary, but for the benefit of those actually not willing to watch them.
Rendlesham Forest UFO

So now you've read the wiki entry, or at least seen part 1 or all of the parts to that documentary. The Rendlesham incident is one that has developed national media coverage.
To summarize this we have a witness in the name of Jim Penniston that says he touched the craft.. please keep in mind this person was a Staff-Sergeant with 81st Security Police Squadron. Why would he make a story like this up with so many military and credible police people to back him up?
It is also told that this craft surveyed and shot down beams of light to the underground bunkers, which.. at that point contained plutonium.

So if the Rendlesham incident is advanced military aircraft... why not just mention that the area would be used for testing.. after all these are air-service men and women.. if they are informed that night a test will be carried out with experimental aircraft, at least there wouldnt of been the mess that has been caused.

The whole incident is riddled with cross stories and questions. not all of them have been answered. It serves no purpose to explain that the military personnel saw the lighthouse light, can't we give credit where credit is due? After all.. me personally i would be able to tell the difference between a sweeping lighthouse light and an unexplained aircraft... even if it was the lighthouse... what was it that staff sargeant jim penniston touched??

This is one incident that of many needs a full investigation and a conclusion bringing to it. These people have a right to voice their opinion and openly say for certain what it is they have experienced and they believe.

To me, it doesn't make sense for a national military agency to develop high tech advanced weaponry and test it in the grounds or area of a military air force base without telling people who are responsible for patrolling that area. I definately believe this is a true case of an extra terrestrial visit.

I do now know how the UK works, but in the US, there is a real tendency towards stove-piping. It is entirely possible that nobody told the troops on duty that night as there was no need to know.
